OBITUARY OF HERMAN HIUM
Herman, Hium, son of Sophie and Eric Hium was born in Vernon County, Town of Sterling on Sept. 27, 1863 and passed away quietly at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Gordee on Monday, April 29, 1940, at the age of 76 years, 7 months and 2 days.
He was baptized,
confirmed and married in the Northwest Prairie Church. On May 31, 1894 he was united in marriage to Emma Anderson. To this union were born four children, Mrs. Joe (Marie) Cummings, California Mrs. Harry (Stella) Gordee, Greenwood and one son, Theo., also of Greenwood. One daughter Mrs. Irving (Ella) McMillan preceded him in death. His wife preceded him in death 37 years ago.
He owned and operated a farm in Vernon County until 1918. In 1920 he came to Clark County, where he has since resided. In 1926 he lost his eye sight and since then he has spent most of his time at the Gordee home.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, May 2 with a short service at the Gordee home at 10 o'clock. The body was then taken to the Northwest Prairie Church. Funeral services were conducted there at 2:30 o'clock, with Rev. Norson and Rev. Nesheim officiating. The body was laid to rest beside his wife in the Northwest Prairie Cemetery.
Pallbearers from the house were Arthur Frickke, Edwin Steiger, Theodore Humke, George Humke, Hubert Kuehn and Otto Kind. Mrs. Dahl and Mrs. Louis Behrens sand two songs.
Pallbearers at the church were Tom Johnson, Allen , Elef Harrum, Albon Slack and Fortun. One song was sang by Rev. and Mrs. Nesheim. Evelyn Hayum and Mrs. Nesheim sang two songs.
Those left to mourn the loss of his death, besides the children are three brothers, John and Tom, West Prairie and Hans, Montana. Three sisters, Christine and Mrs. Anna Crog, Minneapolis and Augatha Yritte, West Prairie and thirteen grandchildren.
