MARSHFIELD NEWS HERALD 12/ /1949
MRS. ROEBER DIES ON FRIDAY
Greenwood--Mrs. Matt (Laura Louise) Roeber, 78, Greenwood died at her home here Friday morning, Dec. 9, 1949 of a heart attack while she was preparing breakfast.
Funeral services have tentatively been arranged for 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Zion Reformed Church, pending the arrival of a son, George Thielan, from Flint, Mich. The Rev. B. M. Fresenborg will officiate and burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Roeber, the former Louis Soefker, was born Oct. 30, 1871, in Germany. She came to this country with her parents at an early age and settled on a farm west of Greenwood, Clark County. Mrs. Roeber had been married twice, the first time to William Thielan, Greenwood. She moved to Greenwood in June of this year when Mr. Roeber retired from farming in the Town of West Beaver.
Mrs. Roeber is survived by her husband and two children, Mrs. Lena Throm, Genoa City, and George Thielan. Several step-children also survive. Two children, William and Ella Thielan, preceded her in death, as did four brothers.
Three sisters, Mrs. Mary Herzog, Plymouth, Mrs. Adolph Meyer, Greenwood, and Mrs. Henry Olson, Greenwood, are also living.
***Family Note:
In the obituary above, it says
she was married to William Thielen but this message has Henry or Heinrich
Thielen. I also noticed your message showing the children being Alice,
George, William & Ella. As with any family research, the obituary could be
incorrect.
Laura Louise Soefker (Oct. 30, 1871- Dec. 9, 1949) would be my
great-grandmother Lena’s Thielen’s (Mar 28, 1896- Mar 1950) mother.
Lena, George, William & Ella are part of that family. Laura Louise Soefker
then married Mathias Roeber & the children moved with her. Lena married
Charles Cammers.
There daughter, Alice married John Widmer.
One of their daughters, Janet married Clifford Ammons & they are my parents.
