GREENWOOD CHILD DIES IN FARM MISHAP
Greenwood--Donna Mae Langfeldt, 3-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Langfeldt, was killed when a truck driven by her father ran over her in the farmyard of the Langfeldt home yesterday, Aug. 14, 1942. The child was pronounced dead on arrival at the Greenwood Clinic.
The accident occurred about 9:30 a.m. at the farm 9 miles northwest of County Truck O in the Town of Longwood, Clark County, as the father left the farmyard in the truck. The child's injuries were chiefly to her head.
The father stated that he did not see his daughter when he backed up about two feet and then drove ahead. He did not know whether the child was trying to get into the box of the truck or on the running board of the vehicle when the tragedy occurred.
Langfeldt drove about 40 rods from the home when he came back to leave instruction regarding the care of the cattle and found Mrs. Langfeldt with the stricken child. The mother had run out of the house when she saw her daughter lying in the yard after the truck had left.
The child was born at Greenwood Oct. 23, 1939, and is survived by her parents, two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Zion Reformed Church at Greenwood, the Rev. M. M. Fresenborg officiating. Burial will take place in the Greenwood Cemetery.
