SERVICES ARE HELD FOR R. H. SYTH, 75
GREENWOOD AND LOYAL MINISTERS OFFICIATE AT RITES FRIDAY


Greenwood--Funeral service for Robert H. Syth, 75, who died Tuesday morning, Jan. 8, 1946 at his home 2 miles south of Greenwood, Clark County on Highway 73, were held Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the home and at 2 o'clock at Grace Methodist Church.


The Rev. Alex J. Abbott, Greenwood and the Rev. Myron E. Taylor, Loyal, officiated at the rites, and interment was made in the Greenwood Cemetery. Mrs. George Haeuser, Mrs. Albert Dahl, Mrs. Louis Behrens, and Mrs. Chal Perkins, accompanied by Mrs. John Meng sang "In the Garden", "The Old Rugged Cross", and "Face to Face".


Pallbearers were James Fradette and Oluf Olson, Neillsville, and John Wuethrich, C. C. Hoehne, William McKenna, and John Scheuring, Greenwood. Mrs. John Wuethrich, Miss Rue Cummings, Mrs. Harry Hogue, and Mrs. John Scheuring carried flowers.


Robert Henry Syth, son the late John and Isabella (Kennedy) Syth, was born Aug. 19, 1870, in London Township, Ontario, Canada, and shortly after came to Greenwood with his parents and four brothers, settling on the Syth farm, 2 miles south of Greenwood on Highway 73.


He spent his entire life there with the exception of five years in Montana. When the Syth family came to Greenwood 75 years ago, the present city consisted of two buildings, a combination store and post office and a stave mill.


Mr. Syth was active in civic affairs of both Eaton Township and Clark County. For the past 25 years he served on the town board, 22 years as its chairman. He also was a member of the school board for a number of years.


He is credited with naming the Town of Hendren, when that township was formed out of the then Eaton Township.


His marriage took place at Neillsville Nov. 26, 1898, to Emma Neville, who preceded him in death Feb. 22, 1919. Two sons died in infancy, and his four brothers, John, James, George, and William also preceded him in death.


Surviving are his sons, Arnold (Arleigh) Syth and John Syth, both of Greenwood two daughters, Mrs. Lawrence (Beulah) Cox and Mrs. Simon (Rugene) Wehrman, also of Greenwood and six grandchildren.


People from away who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Offord, Thorp Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Christie, Owen Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gorman and son and Mrs. Vern Syth, Marshfield Mr. and Mrs. William Neville Sr., Mr. and Mrs. William Neville Jr., James Neville, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Gerhardt, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Eisentraut, Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Allen, Herman Braatz, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Christie, Mrs. Free Christie and daughter, Arlene, Neillsville and Miss Shirley Syth, Cleveland, Ohio.
