AREA RESIDENT DIES AT AGE 89


Greenwood--Anton Debevec Sr., 89, of Greenwood, Clark County, died at 11:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, 1970 at Memorial Hospital in Neillsville, where he had been a patient for the past two weeks.


Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Hill Funeral Home in Greenwood, and at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard. The Rev. Michael Mertens, pastor, will officiate and burial will be made in the Holy Family Cemetery in Willard.


Mr. Debevec was born June 4, 1881 in Yugoslavia. He came to the United States in 1906 and settled in the area of Lorain, Ohio. He was married in Lorain, July 9, 1909 to Mary Zevnik, who preceded him in death Sept. 22, 1947.


The couple came to Willard in 1912 and operated a farm. In 1966 he came into the city of Greenwood, where he resided at the Clark County Home for the Aged until he was moved to the hospital in Neillsville.


He was a member of the Holy Family Church in Willard, and the American Slovanian Catholic Union Society.


Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Mary) Rakovec, Marshfield and Mrs. Eleanor Fale, Brookfield, Ill. six sons, Robert and Frank, Willard Anton, Greenwood Charles, Rockville, Md. Ralph, Lodi and Ray, Pasco, Wash. 38 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his wife, two children in infancy, two sisters and three brothers.
