HENRY SMITH
Henry A. Smith, 76, Greenwood, Clark County, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 1989 at 8:45 a.m. at Neillsville Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 17, 1989 at United Methodist Church, Greenwood, with Rev. Kevin Field officiating. Burial was in the Loyal Cemetery. Greenwood American Legion members served as pallbearers and full military rites were conducted. Pallbearers were Wilmar Peterson, Laurence Jackson, Warren Knudtsen, Clarence Meinhardt, Victor Diercks, Jerry Sowieja.
Henry Smith was born Sept. 10, 1912 in the town of Beaver to Henry Sr. and Eda (nee Johnson) Smith. He attended Beaver Center School. He worked for the Town of Beaver as patrolman, and then worked as a mechanic for the Chevrolet garage in Greenwood for 17 years. He served as a street commissioner for the city of Greenwood until 1968, when he retired.
Smith was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army from May 1942 to December 1945. He saw action in both the European and Pacific theaters. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Greenwood American Legion, and the VFW.
On July 2, 1949 he and Dorothy Duell were married in Loyal. She survives.
Other survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Segre Treankler of Milwaukee; and Mrs. Aleda Damitz, Cudahy and one brothers, Lawrence of Greenwood.
Rinka Funeral Home, Greenwood, was in charge of arrangements.
