LAVERN VANDERWYST


Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, for Lavern (Slim) Vanderwyst, 56, Granton, Clark County, who died early Saturday morning, Jan. 21, 1978 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield. Services were conducted at the Zion American Lutheran Church, Town of Grant, with the Rev. Dale Trimberger officiating. Burial was made in the church cemetery.


Mr. Vanderwyst was born Oct. 21, 1921 in Dubuque, Iowa. He moved with his family to Unity in 1931 and received his education there and in North St. Paul.


He married Irene Quicker on Nov. 6, 1943 in Nasonville.


He began work at the O. W. Trindal Co., Granton in 1945. He became a manager before retiring in 1975 due to poor health.


He was a veteran of World War II and was chosen as honored citizen of Granton in 1975. He served on the fire department and the church board of Zion American Lutheran.


Survivors are his wife three sons, Norman of Granton, Ralph of Tampa, Fla., Harold of Alpena, Mich. two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Deanna) Sholley, Charleston, S.C., and Mrs. Dale (Darlene) Wernberg, Marshfield one sister, Mrs. Harvey Kademan, Curtiss and 11 grandchildren.


He was predeceased by two brothers and one grandchild.
