Gemmeke, Henry (1872 - 1964)


GREENWOOD--Henry Gemmeke, 92, Ridgeland, S.C., a former Greenwood, Clark County resident, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1964, at a hospital in Ridgeland, S.C.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Hill Funeral Home in Greenwood. The Rev. Orval Egbert, pastor of the Immanuel and Zion United Churches of Christ, will officiate, and burial will be made in the West Side Cemetery here.


The body will repose at the Hill Funeral Home from Thursday afternoon until time of services.


Henry Gemmeke was born April 5, 1872, in Trenton, Ohio, and at the age of eight years came with his parents to Greenwood. He had operated a farm 4 miles west of Greenwood until 1940, when he went to Mexico, Mo. For the past two and a half years he had made his home in Ridgeland, S.C. Mr. Gemmeke married twice and was preceded in death by both wives.


Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Alma Boetchullar, Chicago, Ill. two sons, Edward Gemmeke, Ridgeland, S.C. and Oscar Gemmeke, Ely, Minn. two sisters, Mrs. John Smythe, Spokane, Wash and Mrs. Carrie Christenson, Moscow, Iowa and a brother, Alfred Gemmeke, Angle Inlet, Minn.
