Sloniker, Earl Herbert (1891 - 1956)
GREENWOOD--Earl Herbert Sloniker, 65, Greenwood, Clark County, recently retired city Employee, died early Friday morning, March 23, 1956, at his home following an illness of two years. A former chief of police and superintendent of public works, Mr. Sloniker had been employed by the city for 24 years.
Services have been scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Grace Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ethel Nulton officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.
The body will lie in state at the Stabnow Funeral Home beginning Sunday morning.
Mr. Sloniker was born in Vernon County Feb. 26, 1891. He came to Greenwood with his parents as a young boy, receiving his education in Clark County schools. He married Olga J. Bragstad June 30, 1915, at Greenwood, and has resided in the city for the past 38 years.
Surviving are the widow four children, Justin Sloniker, Green Bay Grant Sloniker, and Mrs. Ronald (Corinne) Tesch, Milwaukee and Mrs. Leonard (Maxine) Benson, Flagstaff, Ariz. three sisters and one brother, Mrs. Elmer (Floy) Horn, Chili, and Mrs. Arnold (Fern) Beyer, Mrs. Oscar (Zula) Miller and Ross Sloniker, all of Greenwood, and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Wren Sloniker.
