Lindner, John F. (1898 - 1968)
GREENWOOD, CLARK COUNTY--John F. Lindner, 70, of Greenwood, was killed here Thursday afternoon, Sept. 19, 1968, by a falling tree while cutting firewood on a farm belonging to a brother, Anton Lindner.
Clark County Coroner Robert Lulloff, who investigated, said it appeared that a saw which Lindner had been using became stuck in the base of the storm-damaged tree, and that the man then used a tractor and chain to exert enough force on the tree to loosen the lodged saw. Instead, the tree toppled over, knocked Lindner from the tractor seat to the ground, inflicting fatal chest and back injuries.
The body was discovered shortly after 5 p.m. by Anton Lindner. The accident is believed to have occurred early in the afternoon.
Funeral services for Mr. Lindner will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenwood. The Rev. Leander Koopman will officiate, and burial will be made in the parish cemetery.
The body is reposing at the Hill Funeral Home until the time of services. A general rosary will be conducted there at 9 o'clock tonight (Friday).
