GREENWOOD, CLARK COUNTY--Mrs. O. J. Howard, 86, operator of the Howard Hotel, died of pneumonia Wednesday morning at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire, where she had been a surgical patient the past month.
Mrs. Howard, formerly Adell Davis, was born Nov. 13, 1868, in Richland Center, where she received her education. On April 16, 1892, she was married there to Ora J. Howard. The couple lived in Price county from 1919 to Oct. 9, 1928, when they came to Clark County and operated a farm 2 miles southwest of here.
In 1945 they purchased the Central Hotel, which is now known as the Howard Hotel. The couple celebrated their golden wedding in April 1942.
Mrs. Howard is survived by a son, Claude R. Howard, New Richmond two daughters, Mrs. Otto (Freda) Seybold, Adams and Mrs. Verda Erdman, Greenwood four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Howard died on April 15, 1952. A son also preceded her in death.
Beginning Friday noon the body will lie in state at the Stabnow Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Arthur Riley, pastor of Grace Methodist Church, officiating. The Greenwood Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, of which she was a member, also will conduct services at the funeral home.
The body will be taken to Richland Center, where a brief service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Pratt Funeral Home. The Rev. Mr. Dietman will officiate and burial will take place there in Pine River Cemetery.
