Englebretson, Ronald (1941 - 1960)

GREENWOOD, CLARK COUNTY--Funeral services for Ronald Englebretson, 19-year-old, route 1, Owen youth, who drowned Sunday night, July 17, 1960, at Stanley, were held at 2 p.m. today at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Greenwood. The Rev. Chester Christiansen, supply pastor, officiated and burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Young Englebretson drowned about 10 minutes after the beach at Chapman Lake in Stanley had closed for the day. The lifeguard had called the party of four youths to safe water just before leaving.

Reports are that Englebretson was with Dean Luloff, 17, Sandra Lindahl, 16, and Beverly Hamm, 17, all from the Owen area, and that Lulloff swam out to the raft and Englebretson decided he would too.

About halfway out he called for help. The girls started up the road to get help and Lulloff swam to the youth. He was almost pulled under as Englebretson panicked and finally went under. The body was recovered about an hour later, and rescue operations took place both at the beach and at Victory Memorial Hospital in Stanley.
