Swieso, Walter G. (1891 - 1960)


GREENWOOD, CLARK COUNTY--Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday for Walter G. Swieso, Greenwood, who died of a heart ailment in his sleep Thursday night. The Rev. Gene Carlson will officiate and burial will be made in the Loyal Cemetery.


The body is at the Hill Funeral Home, where friends may call beginning Sunday afternoon. At 11 a.m. Monday the body will be taken to the church.


Mr. Swieso was born in Columbus, Wis. Dec. 9, 1891, and was married at Loyal on Oct. 23, 1917 to the former Effie White, who survives him. He was 12 years of age when his family moved to a farm northeast of Loyal. He received his education in schools at Columbus and in Clark County.


After his marriage, he lived on the home farm for several years, and then moved to the Huntzicker farm, 2 miles south of Greenwood. In 1942 he moved into the city, where he was employed by the Greenwood Cooperative before suffering a heart attack in 1958. He was a director of the Greenwood Credit Union and a member of the Greenwood Grace Methodist Church.


Other survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Leonard (Ila Rae) Thiede, Granton, and Mrs. William (Lola Mae) Pfeifer, Milwaukee two sons, Vernard, Burlington, and Wilbert, Fresno, Calif., and 12 grandchildren.


Mr. Swieso was the last survivor of a family of 13 children. Two brothers and 10 sisters preceded him in death.
