Syth, John Jake (1872 - 1954)


GREENWOOD, CLARK COUNTY
--John (Jake) Syth, 81, a resident of the Greenwood community all his life, died at 4:15 p.m. Monday, March 22, 1954, at his home.


The body will repose at the Stabnow Funeral Home from Wednesday noon until noon Thursday, when it will be taken to Grace Methodist Church, where funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. The Rev. Arthur Riley will officiate and burial will take place in the Greenwood Cemetery.


Mr. Syth was born June 7, 1872, in Eaton Center, 2 miles south of Greenwood, where he attended rural schools. He had remained on the home farm until 10 years ago, when he moved to the city.


In 1906, he was married to Emma Wollenberg in Greenwood by the late Rev. W. T. Hendren. He was active in civic affairs in the Town of Eaton, assessor there for 25 years, and a member of the school board for 20 years.


Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Donald Syth, Eau Claire; and Reynold Syth, Greenwood; and four grandchildren. Two daughters, two brothers, and a sister preceded him in death.
