GREENWOOD, CLARK COUNTY Funeral services for Claude Jay Carter, 78, a resident here the past 71 years, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Stabnow Funeral Home, where the body is reposing. Mr. Carter died at his home at 7:40 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, 1951.
The Rev. Lee H. Holmes, pastor of Grace Methodist Church, will
officiate and the services and burial will be made in the Greenwood
Cemetery.
Mr. Carter was born Nov. 29, 1872, in Neillsville. At the age of
seven he moved with his parents to Greenwood. There he was married
to the former Maude Greene Jan. 8, 1906. He was employed as a
trucker for 40 years.
He played with the 32nd Regiment Band under the direction of
Theodore Steinmetz. He also played with the Greenwood City Band
from the time it was organized in the 1890 s until 1937.
He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Muricio (Iliss)
DePages, Buenos Aires, Argentina, S. A. one grandson and his
mother, Mrs. Nancy Carter, 96, a patient at Veterans Home at
King.
