GREENWOOD, CLARK COUNTY Mrs. Nancy Carter, 97, pioneer resident of Greenwood, where she had operated a millinery and dress shop for over 50 years, died last night, Nov. 14, 1951 in the Veterans Hospital at King, where she had resided since March 1949.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Schiller Funeral Home in Greenwood. The body will repose at the funeral home until the time of the rites. The Rev. Lee Holmes, pastor of the Grace Methodist Church, will officiate and burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.


Nancy Jane Carter, nee Turnbull, was born March 1, 1854 in Churubusco, Ind. In 1868, at the age of 14, she moved with her parents to Neillsville. She married Francis Carte on Feb. 22, 1872, in Neillsville, where they resided until 1881, when they moved to Greenwood. Her husband preceded her in death in 1914.


Mrs. Carter was noted for her love of flowers and grew beds of flowers behind her dress shop, where she also made her living quarters.
She is survived by a granddaughter, Mrs. Mauricio Pages, and a great-grandson, Mauricio Pages Jr., Buenos Aires, Argentina. Her husband, son and eight brothers and sisters preceded her in death.
