Straus, Gilbert (1907 - 1990)
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 26, at 2 p.m. at Rinka
Funeral Home for Gilbert Staus, 82, formerly of Greenwood. He died
Monday, July 23, 1990 at 7:45 p.m. at Neillsville Memorial Home.
Rev. John Tschudy officiated at the service, and burial was in the
Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bob Worden, Bud Brown, Charles
Kramer, Harold Dillenbeck, Frank Artac, and Allan Dallman. Violet
Speich was honorary pallbearer.
Gilbert Straus was born Oct. 2, 1907 in Chicago to Frederick and
Laura (Mein) Straus. He attended schools in Chicago. He was a
graduate of Columbia Business College.
On Aug. 16, 1933, he and Mildred Schmidt were married in Chicago.
They moved to Wisconsin in 1951, where he farmed in the town of
Beaver. He was employed at Greenwood Credit Union from 1959 until
1972. He lived in the city of Greenwood until entering Neillsville
Memorial Home in Sept. 1989.
Survivors include one son, Gilbert of Sussex, and one daughter,
Vivian Straughan, Waukesha, and three grandchildren. He was
predeceased by his parents, his wife in March 1983, and three
brothers, Frederick, Chester and Raymond.
Funeral services were handled by Rinka Funeral Homes,
Greenwood.
