Akin, Edna (1911 - 1990)


Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 8 at 11 a.m. for Edna Akin, 79, Neillsville. Rev. Thomas LaChapelle officiated at services at United Methodist Church, Neillsville, with Char Drescher as accompanist. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Mrs. Akin died Saturday, Oct. 6, 1990, at 2:35 a.m. at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.


The former Edna Cassity was born April 4, 1911, in Tomah, Wis., to James and Minnie (nee Tennet) Cassity. She was education in New Lisbon and was employed in Illinois for two years. She married Jessie Richmond on Aug. 11, 1931 in Winona. They farmed in the Greenwood area and she worked as a nurse's aid in the Neillsville Nursing Home. Mr. Richmond preceded her in death on Feb. 19, 1966. She moved to Mt. Grove, Mo. In 1968 and worked there in a nursing home. On April 6, 1968, she and Ed akin were married in Mt. Grove. He died June 6, 1984. She had made her home in Neillsville since retiring.


Survivors include one son, Jesse Richmond, Granton two sisters, Mrs. James (Marie) Crouse, Wis. Rapids, and Mrs. Ruth Jones, Arena 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death besides her two husbands were her parents, two children in infancy, one son (Donald), one grandson (Dennis), four brothers and two sisters.


Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, handled arrangements.
