Nickel, Ruth (1906 - 1990)

Ruth Nickel, 84, Neillsville, died Tuesday, May 15, 1990, at Neillsville Memorial Hospital, Neillsville. Funeral services were held Friday, May 18, 1990, at Zion Lutheran Church, Granton. Rev. Herbert L. Biermann officiated. Burial was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Granton. Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Ruth (Bartz) Nickel was born Jan. 8, 1906, to William and Anna (Fischer) Bartz in the town of Fremont, Clark County. She received her education in Granton and attended Wausau Teachers School. She taught school in Sidelman School for one year, at Lynn for three years, and at Granton for three years. She married Raymond Nickel on June 18, 1931, in Wausau. He died Dec. 14, 1980. They farmed in the town of Fremont until 1971, when they retired and moved to Granton. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Granton, its Ladies Aid and the West Fremont Homemakers.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Mary Ann) Krainz, Willard two sons, Donald Nickel, Nekoosa William Nickel, Granton 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her husband, two brothers and one sister.

Gilbertson Funeral Home, Granton handled the arrangements.
