McKenna, David John (1920 - 1991)
David John McKenna, 70, formerly of Loyal,
died Friday, April 5, 1991, at Neillsville Memorial Home,
Neillsville. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April
9, 1991, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Loyal. Rev. Roman Kaiser
officiated and burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Greenwood.
Pallbearers were nephews Patrick, Michael, Kevin, Daniel and Shawn
O'Donnell, and Ron and Mark Hardinger.
David John McKenna was born Nov. 20, 1920, in Greenwood, to William
and Anabel (nee Moorehead) McKenna.
He received his education at St. Mary's School and graduated from
Greenwood High School in 1938. He worked in the CC Camps for a
brief time. He then worked for Weber Brothers Store in Marshfield
and then worked for Hub City Foods as a truck driver. In 1952, he
opened Dave s Super Market in Loyal. In 1959, he built a new store,
which is now the present IGA. He then worked for the post offices
in Loyal and Marshfield, retiring in 1981. For the past four years
he had been residing at the Neillsville Memorial Home. He was a
former City Alderman, served two terms as Mayor of Loyal, was a
former Rotary Club member, and a member of St. Anthony's Catholic
Church. He married Joyce Ziegeweid Jan. 8, 1977, in Loyal.
Survivors include his wife four step-children two
step-grandchildren two sisters, Mrs. Douglas (Mary) O'Donnell,
Marshfield and Mrs. Marvin (Agnes) Hardinger, Marshfield and one
brother, Michael McKenna, Wilmington, Calif.
He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two
sisters.
Rinka Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Memorials may be given to St. Anthony's Catholic Church.
