Piekola, Helen H. (1911 - 2001)
Helen H. Piekola, 90, Owen, died on Monday,
March 26, 2001, at the Clark County Health Care Center, Owen.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., on Thursday, March 29,
at the Riverside Cemetery, Withee. The Rev. Tom Myhre will
officiate. Pallbearers will be Roger Poputis, Duane Acker, Jim
Acker, Glen Churkey, Dean Gaede, and Wayne Stanton.
Helen H. Hahto was born on Feb. 8, 1911, in Waukegan, Ill., to
Michael and Sophie (nee Mahla) Hahto. She moved with her family as
a young girl to farm in the town of Longwood. She married Theodore
Ted Piekola on Oct. 6, 1932, in Waukegan, Ill. They farmed in the
town of Beaver from 1938 to 1959. In 1961, they farmed in the town
of Longwood, where she resided until 1993, and moved to the Poplar
Apartments in Owen. She was a homemaker, and enjoyed gardening,
cooking, and farming.
Survivors include two sisters, Ina Hahto, Highland Park, Ill., and
Bertha Krumrey, Grayslake, Ill. and many nieces, nephews and
friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents her husband, Ted Piekola,
on Feb. 20, 1976 three sisters, Martha Niemi, Linda Lytkiainen, and
Vivian Acker and two brothers, John Hahto and Richard Hahto.
Maurina Funeral Home, Owen, is assisting the family with
arrangements.
