Jakel, Kathryn Marie (1932 - 2000)


Kathryn Marie Jakel, 68, Curtiss, died on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at her home in the town of Mayville. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., on Sunday, Dec. 17, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Abbotsford. The Rev. Al Jakubowski officiated. Burial was in Pine Hill Cemetery, Curtiss. Pallbearers were her sons, Michael, Charles, James, Paul, and Thomas Jake, and her brother-in-law, Dennis Jakel.


Kathryn Prohaska was born on Feb. 5, 1932, in Medford, to Frederick and Anna Marie (nee Hierlemeier) Prohaska. She attended Holy Rosary catholic Grade School and was a 1949 graduate of Medford High school. She then attended the Taylor County Normal (Teachers) school and later furthered her education at the University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point with a Bachelor of Arts in teaching. She began her teaching career at the Curtiss Grade School from 1951 to 1952. She retired from teaching in 1994 after teaching many young kindergarten children in Athens for 26 years. She married Carl Jakel on July 9, 1952, at Holy rosary Catholic Church, Medford, and they celebrated 48 years together. She was involved in many activities. She was a past president of the Curtiss Community Club, a member of the Retired Teachers Association, the Curtiss Homemakers, and the Curtiss Card Club. She was an active member of the Parish Council of Catholic Women. She enjoyed pitching horseshoes, flower gardening, traveling, and baking bread.


Survivors include her husband, Carl Jake, Curtiss five sons, Michael (Sandra Peanuts ) Jakel, Dorchester, Charles (Karen) Jakel, New Lisbon, James (Jenny) Jakel, Abbotsford, Paul (Jean) Jakel, Abbotsford, and Thomas (Rhonda) Jakel, Abbotsford two daughters, Kathryn (Steven) Katka, Ada, Minn., and Mary Beth Buffy (Donald) Feddick, Abbotsford two sisters, Sister Michael Norma Prohaska, Medford, and Mary Ann Borgenmoen, Curtiss 15 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.


She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Frederick Prohaska.


Maurina Funeral Home, Abbotsford, assisted the family with arrangements.
