Brecht, Rosabel R. (1928 - 2001)
Rosabel Rosie R. Brecht, 73, Loyal, Clark
County, died on Monday, May 28, 2001, at St. Joseph's Hospital,
Marshfield. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Thursday, May
31, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Loyal. The Rev. Daniel Zimmerman
officiated. Burial was in the Loyal Cemetery. Pallbearers were her
nephews, bob Ladwig, John Schmidt, roger Schmidt, George Ladwig,
Wayne Schmidt, and Eric Satterstrum.
Rosabel Ruth Ladwig was born on Feb. 11, 1928, in Franklin, to
Herbert Sr. and Gertrude (nee Niemann) Ladwig. She received her
education in Franklin and after completing her education, moved to
Thorp, and worked for a doctor and his wife as a housekeeper. While
working in Thorp, she met Harvey Benedict. They were married on
April 28, 1952, in Dubuque, Iowa. They farmed in the town of York
before selling their farm and moving to Racine, where her husband
worked at American Motors. She worked at Splinters Pickle Factory
and as a bartender for many bars in the Racine area. Her husband
died on Sept. 17, 1967. She then moved to Loyal in 1967, and was
owner/operator of Rosie's Bar. She married Emery Brecht on Sept.
14, 1981, in Dorchester. He died on Aug. 31, 1982. After his death,
she took care of local people until she was unable to do son. She
resided at the Hometown Village Apartments until her death.
She was a member of Trinity
Lutheran Church and its TLCW, the Loyal Senior Citizens, several
card clubs, and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed
crocheting, reading, playing cards, jigsaw puzzles and spending
time with her family and friends.
Survivors include one daughter, Gail (Darrell Watson) Stephens,
Loyal six grandchildren, Gene (Donita) Tess Jr., Jim (Candace)
Tess, Jennifer (fianc Paul Kupstis) Benedict, Deanna Benedict,
Amanda and Wesley Stephens three great-grandchildren, Kayla,
Vanessa, and Cody Tess one sister, Ruthann (Roger) Schmidt, Rives,
Tenn. and one sister-in-law, Diane Tess, Greendale.
She was preceded in death by her parents her husbands, Harvey and
Emery two sons, Byron Benedict and Gene Tess Sr. two brothers, John
and Herbert Junior Ladwig and one sister, Joanne Hansen.
Cuddie Funeral Home, Loyal assisted the family with
arrangements.
