Gross, Isabel (1904 - 2001)
Isabel Patty Gross, 97, Neillsville, Clark
County, died on Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at Neillsville Memorial
Home, where she had resided since Sept. 29, 1998. Funeral services
were held at 11 a.m., on Friday, July 20, at St. Anthony's Catholic
Church, Loyal. The Rev. Roman Kaiser officiated. Following the
service, cremation took place and burial will be at a later date in
St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were Michael, Kevin,
Ted, Shawn, and Patrick John P. J. Mack, and Guy Lindekugel.
Isabel Leabel was born on April 29, 1904, in Loyal, to Samuel and
Susan (nee Beaver) Leabel. She attended St. Anthony's Catholic
School in Loyal, and graduated from Loyal High School in 1922. She
then attended the University of Wisconsin. She was a proud member
of Alpha Delta Psi. Two years into her schooling, she became ill
with tuberculosis. She moved to California for her recovery, which
took several years. She was married to Chester A. Ted Gross on Aug.
21, 1929, in California, by her brother, Father Pius Arthur Leabel.
During this time, she completed her education at UCLA and graduated
in the 1930's. They lived in California for 70 years and were
extensive travelers, visiting every country, except Brazil. She was
an avid gardener, belonging to the San Clemente Gardeners Club. Her
husband died in 1993 and she continued to live in California, until
her niece brought her back to Wisconsin, where she entered the
Neillsville Memorial Home.
Survivors include two nieces, Leabel (Sherrin) Mack, Loyal, and
Virginia (Wayne) Lee, Saginaw, Mich. one nephew, Joseph (Connie)
Voight, Wausau and many other nieces, nephews, relatives, and
friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents her husband, Chester A.
Gross one brother, Father Pius Arthur Leabel and one sister,
Eleanora Voight.
Cuddie Funeral Home Loyal, assisted the family with
arrangements.
