Wendt, Edgar John (1913 - 2001)
Edgar J. Wendt, 87, Owen, formerly of
Greenwood, died on Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001, at the Clark County
Health Care Center, Owen, where he had been a resident since Jan.
2000. Funeral services were held on Monday, Aug. 20, at Immanuel
United Church of Christ, Greenwood. The Rev. Michael Kennedy
officiated. Donna Olson was the soloist and Jodi Rueth was the
organist. Burial was in the Parish Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dick
Olson, Randy Hendrickson, Kevin Buckman, Chuck McCabe, Jerry Olson,
Duane Olson and Torry Carragher.
Edgar John Wendt was born on Dec. 12, 1913, in Longwood, to John
and Clara (nee Noah) Wendt. He attended school in the Longwood
area. He married Delores Mattausch on Aug. 22, 1940. The couple ran
the Praag Grocery Store and raised mink for a few years before
moving to the Longwood area to farm. In 1959, they moved to
Montana, where they rented a wheat farm and later managed a trailer
court. In the late 1980's, they moved back to Greenwood and reside
there until they both entered the nursing home in Jan. 2000. He
enjoyed fishing, especially paddle fishing in Montana. He was a
member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Carragher, Rosemount, Minn.
three grandchildren, Tricia (Kevin Buckman, Farmington, Minn.,
Tammy (Chuck) Carragher, Leesburg, Va. and one sister, Alice
(Arnie) Dehne, Greenwood.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores, on Aug. 15, 2001 a
brother, Adolph and two sisters, Bertha Gander and Leona
Erickson.
Cuddie Funeral Home of Greenwood assisted the family with
arrangements.
