Schmitz, Dorothy (1912 - 2001)


Dorothy Schmitz, 89, formerly of the town of Lynn, Clark County, died on Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at the Memorial Medical Center in Neillsville. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 22, at Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, and from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21, at Grace Lutheran Church, Nasonville. The Rev. Daniel J. Behnke will officiate. Music will be provided by Arlene Meissner, organist. Burial will be in the town of Lynn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Richard Schmitz, Duane Schmitz, James Tasse, Thomas Tasse, Tim Schmitz and Terry Schmitz. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jim Schmitz, Dean Schmitz, David Schmitz and Kevin Schmitz.


Dorothy Heinrich was born on May 30, 1912, in the town of Lincoln, Wood county, to Gustave and Bertha (nee Behling) Heinrich. She attended the Lone Elm School in the town of Lincoln. She worked in the Marshfield area for two years, then moved to Waukegan, Ill., to do housework and factory work. She married George Schmitz on Jan. 11, 1930, in Waukegan. In Feb. 1930, they returned to her husband s family farm in the town of Lynn. They lived there until their retirement in 1972. She worked at Weinbrenner Shoe Factory from 1956-75. They lived their retirement days in their new home in Lynn. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Nasonville, and was a lifetime member of the Granton Sportsman Club, the Lynn Birthday Club and was the secretary of her senior citizens' group since 1982. Her hobbies included sewing crafts, crocheting, knitting and quilting.


Survivors include four children, Lamar (Thelma June) Schmitz, Neillsville, Ronald (Shelby) Schmitz, Stratford, Betty Tasse, Granton, and Jerry (Lila) Schmitz, Granton 17 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren, Richard (Beth), Tina and Rick Schmitz, Burlington, Duane (Lynn) Alex and Arick Schmitz, Maplewood, Minn., Dean Schmitz, Eau Claire, Darla (Grant), Luke, Rachel, Joe, Sam and David Harder, Neillsville, James (Amy) , Jenny and Isabel Tasse, Milwaukee, Tom (Barb), Ben, and Mandy Christensen, Marshfield, Mary (Brian) and Hannah McClung, Marshfield, Lori Tasse (Mark Schroeder), Granton, Debbie (Tim), Elizabeth and Zachary Carlson, Marshfield, James Schmitz, Stratford, Lynn, Kenny, Gloria, Heather and Steve Dolle, Cuba City, Tim (Jane), Molly, Alexandria and Matthew Schmitz, Granton, Terry (Sandy) , Tara, Kortney, Logan and Nicholas Schmitz, Granton, David (Karen) Kelsey, Carter and McKenzie Schmitz, Germantown, and Kevin Schmitz, Neillsville and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Heinrich, Marshfield, and Olga Heinrich, Marshfield.


She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 1989 her parents four brothers, William, Arnie, Orlie and Mervin Heinrich one grandson, Daniel Schmitz one great-granddaughter, Rebecca Christensen and one son-in-law, Cyril Tasse.
The Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, is assisting the family with arrangements.
