Rogers, Catherine (1830 - 1872)

Died, in Pine Valley, Clark County, on Thursday, Nov. 28, 1872, Catherine, wife of Andrew Rogers, aged 42.

Funeral services were held in the M.E. Church on Sunday, Dec. 1st. The church was filled to its utmost capacity and the deepest sympathy was manifested for the afflicted family.

The deceased has been a resident of this place from the early days, and had become endeared to a large circle of acquaintances. Many remembered her kindly ministrations in times of sickness, and endeavored to show their gratitude by friendly offices in the time of her affliction. How fully was realized in her case, the truth of the divine words With what measure you mete, it shall be measured to you again.

Her disease was cancer in the breast, and was pronounced hopelessly incurable for months past by best physicians in this locality. Her sufferings were intense, but with calm resignation she bade adieu to her loved ones, and accepted death as a sweet release from pain.

We mourn our loss
but love will dream and faith will trust,
Since he who knows our need is just,
That somehow, somewhere meet we must.
