Breed, Jared P. (1813 - 1873)
Died in Neillsville, Clark County, on Friday, Feb. 6, 1873, Jared
P. Breed, aged 60 years.
The deceased has been a resident of this village for nearly two
years. He was a native of New Hampshire, but in early live removed
to Sehroon , N.Y. From this place he removed to Michigan, living
successively at Plymouth, Saginaw City, and South Haven. From the
latter place he removed to Clark County, in April 1871. In the
month of August following he was afflicted with a severe shock
paralysis, from which he never fully recovered, and which
reappeared several time since, though in lighter shocks, until he
became quite enfeebled. Nearly two weeks before his death, while
cutting wood, he inflicted a severe wound on one foot, which, under
careful treatment, seemed to be healing rapidly, but induced a
return of the old malady. There seemed no hope for his recovery
then and his course soon run. He bore his sufferings with
remarkable patience. His awakening to consciousness was to
recognize his brother Leonard the day before his death. He was
years a member of the Methodist church, which fellowship he honored
with a consistent, upright life. Thus has passed away a kind
husband and father, an honorable citizen, and worthy Christian man.
When over the river, the mystic boatman shall bear the surviving
bereaved ones, may there be a happy reunion.
