Whitcomb, Marian (? - 1875)
Died, at Humbird, Clark County, Wis., on the night of the 18th of
April, 1875, Marian, wife of F. W. Whitcomb, after a protracted
illness of nearly ten weeks.
So closes a blameless and well spent life. In the advent of Mrs.
Whitcomb society loses a rare gem a woman of refined taste,
expanded intellect and high moral nature. She was possessed of a
warm and generous heart and where ever she walked in the paths of
life, friendship and love attended. Her attachments were ardent and
sincere, as a large circle of mourning friends will attest. But it
was useless to attempt an enumeration of her many virtues. In
contemplating her death we see a being cut off in the prime of
life. Like a full-blown rose nipped by the frost when its beauties
were most resplendent, so was she snatched away by the had of death
at a period where her life was becoming most useful to herself and
others.
Rest, May be, for we are assured you will meet your well merited
reward in that life to come, and it is that thought alone that can
reconcile us in our grief.
The last sad rites which her sorrowing friends could perform were
held at Humbird on Tuesday afternoon, presided over by the Rev. Mr.
Briggs. A large procession followed her to her final resting place,
and an inaudible God bless you, breathed from very heart, followed
the coffin in the grave.
The bereaved husband has the heartfelt sympathy of the entire
community, he having lost a loving companion and a true life.
Truly The King of shadows loves a shining mark.
