Bartels, Kenneth (1912 - 1980)


Kenneth F. Bartels, 67, of 503 S. Cambridge street, Wautoma, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 1980, at Wautoma Memorial Community Hospital.


Services were at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 26, in Hope Lutheran Church with the Rev. Richard Gilbertson officiating. Interment was in the Hope Lutheran Cemetery.


Kenneth Bartels was born May 3, 1912, in Endeavor to Frederick and Winnefred (Burwell) Bartels. He married Ellen Anderson on Aug. 7, 1939.


He received his education at Westfield High school, Westfield Teachers Training School, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He began his teaching career in a rural school in Endeavor and followed by serving as administrator at Gleason, Oxford, Hancock, White Lake, Wautoma, Argyle and Greenwood (Clark County) school until his retirement four years ago.


During his career in education, he also served as classroom teacher, basketball coach and band director.


Mr. Bartels was a member and president of Hope Lutheran Church, Wautoma, Wautoma Memorial Community Hospital Board, Wautoma Rotary Club, Wautoma Library Board, Wisconsin Association of School District Administrators and Waushara County Retired Teachers.


Surviving are his wife one son, Douglas, DeForest two brothers, Irving of Plainfield and Harlan, Poynette one sister, Mrs. Cortland (Merna) Janisch, Endeavor and two grandchildren.


A memorial has been established.
