Marty, Emma (1894 - 1980)


Mrs. Emma Marty, 85, of Neillsville, Clark County, died Friday, Jan. 18, 1980, at Memorial Home, where she had resided the past several years.


Services were held Monday at the Gesche Funeral Home, with the Rev. William Noble, pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial followed in the Neillsville Cemetery.


The former Emma Altemus was born April 16, 1894, at Evansville and received her education there. She was married at Evansville on June 18, 1913, to Casper J. Marty. They moved to a farm east of Neillsville in the Town of Grant, where they farmed until 1958 when a son, Robert, took over the farm and they moved to Neillsville.


Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Walter (Beth) Sternitzky, Apache Junction, Ariz. Mrs. Esther Jones, Beloit and Mrs. Walter (Helen) Schoen, Neillsville five sons, Walter Marty, Wis. Rapids Fred Marty, Granton William Marty, Elkhorn and Robert and Jesse Marty, both of Neillsville a sister, Mrs. Joseph (Phyllis) Esselman, Loyal 32 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her husband in 1972, and by a brother.

Marty, Emma (16 April 1894 – 18 January 1980)

A resident of the Neillsville Memorial Home for the past several years, Mrs. Emma Marty, 85, passed away at the home, Friday, January 18. The deceased was born April 16, 1894, at Evansville to Charles and Esther (Robb) Altemus. She received her education in the area schools and on June 18, 1913, in Evansville ceremonies. The couple moved to the Town of Grant and farmed there until a son bought the farm and the couple moved into Neillsville. Later with failing health after the death of her husband in 1972, she became a resident of the Home.

Surviving her are five sons, Walter of Wis. Rapids, Fred of Granton, William of Elkhorn, and Robert and Jesse both of Neillsville, three daughters, Mrs. Walter (Beth) Sternitzky of Apache Junction, Az., Mrs. Esther Jones of Beloit, and Mrs. Walter (Helen) Schoen of Neillsville, one sister Mrs. Joseph (Phyllis) Esselman, Loyal, (?) grandchildren and (?) great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death besides her husband, was one brother Ray.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville with the Rev. William Noble of the Neillsville United Methodist Church officiating, and burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Marty, Emma (16 April 1894 – 18 January 1980)

Funeral services were held for Emma Marty, 85, from the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville on the afternoon of January 21. Mrs. Marty passed away three days earlier after a long illness.

“Beautiful Isle” and “The Old Rugged Cross” were the musical selections offered by Mae Peters and Iris Musil. The Rev. William Noble of the Neillsville United Methodist Church officiated, with burial made in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Ronald Marty, Darrell Marty, Thomas Marty, David Marty, Terry Marty, Larry Sternitzky, Dan Jones and Karl Schoen.

Attending from out of town were Mr./Mrs. Walter Marty, Wis. Rapids; Esther Jones, Beloit; William and Susan Marty, Mr./Mrs. Scott Bradford, Sandy (blotch) and Mr./Mrs. Ronald Marty, Elkhorn; Mr./Mrs. Dan Jones, Rockford, Ill.; Mrs. Wayne Steinke and Mrs. Hank Brill, Janesville; Mr./Mrs. David Marty, Marshfield; Thomas Marty, Wausau; Mr./Mrs. Larry Sternitzky, Fall Creek; Mr./Mrs. Darrell Marty, Port Edwards; and many friends and relatives from the Loyal, Granton and Greenwood areas.
