Scherr, Peter (1887 - 1980)
Peter Scherr, 92, of 606 South Main, Greenwood, Clark County, died
Wednesday morning, April 2, 1980 at Memorial Home in
Neillsville.
A prayer service was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 5 at St.
Mary's Catholic Church, Greenwood. Rev. J. J. Burggraf of Spencer
officiated and interment was in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery,
Marshfield.
Mr. Scherr was born on May 24, 1887 in Marshfield and received his
education in Marshfield, completing it in Chicago.
He worked for Connor Lumber Company in Stratford and for Soo Line
and Northwestern Railroads before marrying Josephine Falkner on May
20, 1913 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Lima. Wis.
He operated a cement and concrete business in Marshfield for 20
years and was also section foreman for the Fairchild and
Northwestern Railroad.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the National
Catholic Society of Foresters.
Surviving are his wife one son, Martin Scherr of Wausau one
daughter, Mrs. Florian (Marcella) Herrick of Colby four
grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Scherr observed their 60th wedding anniversary in May
1973.
Serving as pallbearers were Ronald Groetsch, Bernard Stelter, Anton
Hengst, Wilbur Black, Jerry Ohlinger and Jim Schojsf. Rinka Funeral
Home was in charge of arrangements.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob
Scherr.
