Wisth, Hjalmar (1899 - 1980)
Norway native Hjalmar Wisth, 81, of 8665 N. Lake Dr., who lived in
Bayside the past 14 years, died at Veteran's Hospital on Wednesday,
Nov. 26, 1980.
Mr. Wisth, born in Trondjhem, Norway, Norway, came to Greenwood,
Clark County at the age of 4. He worked as a lumberjack and a stone
mason before enlisting to serve in Panama during World War I. After
the war, he worked for Railroad Express for 40 years.
He was a member of Independence Lodge No. 80, F AM, and the Tripoli
Temple. Mr. Wisth won a fifth place nationally in a contest for
primitive art. He took up painting after his retirement and sold
his works in this country and in Europe.
He is survived by his wife, Augusta, to whom he was married for 60
years a son, Arthur (Eleanor) Wisth of Bayside two grandsons, Jim
and Bill Wisth of Bayside a granddaughter, Jean (John) Gorski of
Fox Point and two great-grandchildren.
