Stanley, Merrill E. (1902 - 1981)
Merrill E. Stanley, 79, of Chetek, died Saturday, July 11, 1981, at
Knapp Haven Nursing Home, Chetek, following a stroke.
A memorial service was conducted by member of the Chetek I.O.O.F.
Lodge on Monday evening, July 13, at the Burnham Funeral Chapel,
Chetek. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July
14, at the Burnham Funeral Chapel. Rev. Wallace Hunstad
officiated.
Merrill E. Stanley was born on Feb. 27, 1902, in the Greenwood,
Clark County area. He graduated from Greenwood High School in 1921
and from an agriculture course at Madison in 1923.
He then moved to the Chetek area, where he was manager of the
Chetek Cooperative Creamery for over 20 years. He also owned the
Chetek Coal Company for many years.
He served eight years as mayor of Chetek and was a former coucil
member and city assessor. He was a retired fireman a 54 year Odd
Fellow member and was a member of the Chetek Masonic Lodge.
He was married to Hattie Flor in 1926. She died on May 8, 1958. His
second marriage was to Alice Paulson in Milbank, S.D., on Sept. 22,
1970. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Carlyle of Charleston, S.C., Max of
Kenosha three daughters, Mrs. Harold (Yvonne) Lindblad of Amery,
Mrs. Robert (Arlene) Stoik of Lincoln Park, Mich., and Mrs. James
(Annamae) Axness of Portage one sister, Mrs. Lucille Lunka of
Willard 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was one brother, Leo Stanley, of
Greenwood.
Burnham Funeral Chapel, Chetek, handled arrangements.
