Meske, Emma Lucille (1913 - 2002)
ABBOTSFORD - Emma Lucille Meske, born Aug. 19, 1913, passed away
Feb. 1, 2002. She passed peacefully with her family surrounding her
and with the support of home hospice.
Funeral services for Emma were at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at Christ
Lutheran Church in Abbotsford. Rev. Dr. Paul C. Hunsicker
officiated.
Burial was in Christ Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers were Trent
Meske, Ryan Meske, Aaron Mueller, Frank Wix, Bill Leichtnam and
Harlan Billman.
Visitation with family and friends was from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday,
Feb. 3, at the Maurina Funeral Home in Abbotsford and from 9 a.m.
until service time Monday at the church.
She was born in Marshall County, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and
Edith (Lowry) Billman. At the age of six she moved to Wisconsin
with her family. She received her education in rural schools in
Marshfield, Granton and Colby. She graduated from Colby High School
in 1933.
Emma married Milton Meske of Abbotsford on Sept. 22, 1933. They
farmed on the Meske homestead until 1950 when they moved to a farm
in Curtiss. In 1972 Milton and Emma retired from farm life and
moved to the city of Abbotsford. Milton preceded Emma in death on
Jan. 17, 1989.
Emma loved to bowl, shoot pool, travel, sew and read. She was a
member of Christ Lutheran Church of Abbotsford and belonged to the
Ladies' Aid and the Priscilla Guild until her time of death.
Emma is survived by two daughters, Lila Meske of Curtiss and Ruth
(John) Mueller of Abbotsford, and one son, Dennis (Devona) Meske of
Ashland. Five grandchildren include Stacy (Frank) Wix of
Marshfield, Aaron (Julie) Mueller of DeKalb, Ill., Trent Meske and
Ryan Meske of Ashland and Dana Meske (Bob Voca) of Ashland.
Emma also was blessed with three great-grandchildren whom she loved
dearly, Tanner and Taylor Wix and Tianna Voca.
She is survived by one sister, Ruth Leichtnam of Abbotsford and one
sister-in-law, Maryorinda "Rinny" Billman of Mesa, Ariz., as well
as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death, besides her husband, by her parents,
five brothers and four sisters.
