Obituary--"PROMINENT
CITIZEN, L. W. CATTANACH, BURIED"
Death slipped into the peaceful sleep of L. W. Cattanach early
Thursday evening with its beckoning call taking the spirit of one
of Owens pioneer citizens into its heavenly realm. He would have
observed his 83rd birthday anniversary Christmas Day. For the most
part these many years have been blessed with a full healthy life of
happiness and varried activity. His health began to fail noticeably
several months ago.
Funeral services were conducted from St. Katherine's Episcopal
Church, Owen, of which he was a charter and active member, at 1:30
pm Tuesday. Father John English officiated with burial being made
at Riverside Cemetary, Withee. Pallbearers were Pete Madsen, L. E.
Bulgrin, Harold Wendt, Harvey Weddig, Roll Haire, and Gordon
Thorson. Honorary Pallbearers were EC Olds, Dr. MV Nason, Ben
Bruchert, Walter Fritz, Henry Anderson, W. J. Mahoney Sr., Carl
Halverson, William Mattson, Henry Wollum and W. P. Hilt.
Lewis Walter Cattanach was born December 25, 1878, at Nasonville,
Wood County. On December 30, 1913, he was united in marriage to
Nina Cornwell at Neillsville, Clark County. In 1916 the couple and
family moved to Owen with Mr. Cattanach headquartering out of the
Owen terminal while serving as a mail clerk on the railway. He held
this position for 19 years until his appointment as postmaster in
the city of Owen. He served the community in this capacity for 13
years until his retirement in 1934. Since that time he was engaged
in the insurance business and for several years was associated with
E. W. Kidd Wood Specialties.
Always an active civil leader he served for years on the county
board as First Ward Supervisor, was a member of the World War II
draft board, a charter memeber of the Owen Kiwanis Club, Meadowview
Country Club, and the Owen Masonic Lodge. In addition he was also a
member of the Consistory of Eau Claire and a member of the Zor
Shrine, Madison.
Monday evening Masonic Rites were held at the Hoeper and Kraut
Funeral Home with fellow brethren from the Owen, Thorp,
Neillsville, Colby, Abbotsford, and Madison lodges paying their
respects. Tuesday morning a requiem Mass was held at St.
Katherine's Church.
