WEST AGAIN ARRESTED FOR COUNTERFEITING

Wallace West, an aged farmer of Christie, Clark county, who was arrested two years ago on the charge of making counterfeit money, is again in the law’s clutches and it is a clear case against him. West has been watched for two years by Detective Lawrence of St. Paul and Recently his tow sons are alleged to have confessed that they saw their father make bogus silver money.  It will be remembered by readers of The News that two years ago West was arrested and taken to Madison for trial.  He had paid $25 in counterfeit silver dollars and $3 in counterfeit half dollars to one of his neighbors in purchasing a cow.  West declared he had been given the money by his brother-in-law, Cyrus E. Foreman.  Respect for his age and belief in his story, caused Wet’s release and an indictment was returned against Foreman.  The latter was found to be of irreproachable reputation.

Wallace West was formerly a resident of Brillion and early residents say that he bore anything but an enviable reputation and was mixed up in several robberies.  Marshfield News    Thursday 26 Feb. 1903   P. 1 C. 5
