Jacob & Mary M. (Clark) Breneman
Greenwood, Eaton, Clark Co., Wisconsin
"Jake" was born in Ohio during February of 1842, the son of John and Jane (Wiman) Breneman. He married Mary M. 30 Dec 1869. She was born 20 Jul 1852, the daughter of David S. and Maryette (Barker) Clark. Jacob and Mary farmed in Sec. 3, Beaver Township, Clark Co., WI. He born in Ohio abt. 1845 and Mary was born in Wisconsin during 1852. They were the parents of three sons: Eugene B., Wesley and Elmer and a daughter, Mary Cora. Jacob was a veteran of the Civil War, having fought as a Pvt with Co E, 130th OH Inf for 1 yr., 4 mos. He enlisted 2 Mar 1864 and was discharged 2 Jul, 1865. At the time of the 1870 Census, Jacob’s mother was residing with the family, but in 1880, she was living with Jacob’s brother, Henry, in Poinette, WI. Apparently the rigors of war and life took a toll on Jake because family members described him as a rather cantankerous individual who was not always kind to his wife. He died 7 Apr 1919 and Mary passed away in 1935. Jacob was first buried in Clark County, but later reinterred in the Marcellon Cemetery at Pardeeville.
