William H. & Lucinda Wheeler
Greenwood, Eaton, Clark Co., Wisconsin
William was born 28 Apr 1834 in Ft. Edward, NY, the son of Samuel and Jane (Finton) Wheeler. Both parents were natives of VT and Samuel was a farmer and carpenter. William served in the Civil War before moving to Clark Co., WI about 1888. Even though he was only a resident of Christie, WI about 5 yrs., he was respected and esteemed for being a home loving, God fearing, family man. He married Lucinda, the daughter of Benjamin and Jane Van Buren, in 1860. She was born during July 1844 at Ticonderoga, NY on the "Old Fort Ground". The Wheeler children were: Ida L. (b. 13 May 1863, m. Asa A. Duell of Greenwood), Cora E. Lamb of Ft. Edward, NY, W. "Frank" of Christie and Carl H. of Warrensburg, NY. William passed away at 4 p.m., Mon., 25 Apr 1910 of heart failure; just 3 days shy of his 76th birthday. His funeral was held at the Christie Church and his remains were buried in the Chapel Hill Cemetery. Lucinda died 22 Oct 1918 of Spanish Influenza in Thorp, WI at the home of her son, Frank, and was buried beside her husband.
***William H. Wheeler is also featured in the book, "Civil War Soldiers in the heart of Clark Co., Wisconsin."
