Shortly after her birth, they moved to Christie, Sec. 4, Weston Twp., WI, where their next 3 children were born: Glenn Vernon (25 Oct 1884), Milton Ward (10 Nov 1886), and Merle Amelia (13 Sep 1889). Lucien Zander, Sr. was born 11 May 1812 in Troy, NY, the son of James and Ruth (Haskell) Zander. His marriage to Rebecca Whitney Northrup took place 4 Dec 1846. She was the daughter of Hezekiah Wells and Chloe (Williams) Whitney and had previously been married to William Milton Northrup. Lucien was a pioneer settler in the Milwaukee area and was recorded in that local history as having arrived in 1836 and lived with his brother on the SW corner of Florida and Hanover. He and Stoddard H. Martin did the carpentry work on the brewery for the manufacture of lager beer on the south side. It was the first ever built in Milwaukee. The Zanders were the parents of: Lucien V., James Tactus (b. 26 Jul 1849), L. Julian, Mrs. Eugene Heath, and George Edward (b. 3 Jul 1859, d. 1 Jan. 1944) and Francis Belle (b. 13 Dec 1855) all of Elgin. The stepchildren are Mrs. Eliza Copeland of San Francisco, Mrs. (Mary) Edward Woodbridge Tuttle of Elgin, and Henry Northrup of Santa Barbara, CA. During the Civil War, Lucien fought with Co. E. 37th Wis. Inf., along side his son, James Tactus Zander. He and Rebecca celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in 1896. Lucien died 13 Apr. 1897, in the home of his son, L. Julian Zander who lived on Walnut Ave., Elgin, IL. He was buried in the Bluff City Cemetery of Elgin as were many of the family members.
James Tactus Zander was born 4 Nov 1849 and was a native of Milwaukee who fought with Company
E, 37th Wis. Inf. along side his father. He was the son of
Lucien Sr. and
Rebecca Ann Whitney Northrup. His wife, Neillie G. (Barnes), was 8 years
his junior and for a number of years they lived in Elgin, IL. They
married in 1865.
James was an employee of the Elgin National Watch as a dial maker.
They later owned a restaurant there. His children were: Vernon,
Leslie of Evergreen Park, IL and Earl of Aurora, IL and Mrs. Otis
Hardin, Pueblo, Colo., was his daughter. His brother, George E.
Zander was born 3 Jul 1859, in Farmington, WI. He married Ruth
Bingham 20 Jun 1892 and they lived in Aurora, IL. Francis Belle Zander
married Eugene Horace Heath 14 Feb 1883 in Kane Co., IL.
In 1931, James moved to St. Petersburg, FL, where he died. His funeral services were held in the afternoon in the chapel at 310 South State St., Elgin, IL and he was buried in the Bluff City cemetery. He'd lived to be 92 years old.

HISTORY of Northern Wisconsin
ASHFORD was originally organized as the Town of Chili; but for some reason this name was not satisfactory, and by act of Legislature, approved January 26, 1854, it was changed to Ashford, which, it is said, was suggested on account of the great quantity of ash timber growing in the town. This name was given by Dr. S. G. Pickett.
Dr. Seth G. Pickett appears to be the brother of Samuel H. Pickett, who has a bio on our site:
(in part: )
SAMUEL H. PICKETT, veteran of the Civil War, and pioneer of Unity Township, is one of the most highly estimable citizens in the county, and is setting a splendid example of loyalty and patriotism to the younger generation. He was born in the parental log cabin on a farm in Catteraugus County, N. Y., son of Eli K. and Elinda (Griswold) Pickett, grandson of Ansel Pickett, and descended from Revolutionary and 1812 ancestry. Ansel Picket was of Irish descent, and his wife of Holland Dutch blood. Eli K. Pickett fought in, the War of 1812, he and his wife both being natives of Connecticut. Samuel H. Pickett grew to manhood in his native state, and was married in 1854, coming a year later to Wisconsin, living the first summer in Waukesha County, and in the fall renting a farm in Washington County. In September, 1861, he enlisted in the Seventh Battery, Wisconsin Light Artillery, was mustered in at Milwaukee, and served in the South, being taken prisoner on Dec. 20, 1862, during Forrest's raid, at Humboldt, Tenn., paroled at Columbus, sent to St. Louis, and discharged from service March 3, 1863. In January 1864, he enlisted in Co. M., First Wisconsin Cavalry, and later became the regimental horseshoer, serving in the Army of the Cumberland, and under General William T. Sherman took part in, the battles of Wauseca, Kenesaw Mountain and Atlanta.
Response: I know for a fact that Sam and Seth are brothers. There is another brother, Eli, that passed through (Walworth Co) and then moved to Minnesota. The Minnesota Historical Society has full letters from Eli on file (I made photocopies of all of them) and even have his photo. Another brother, Ebenezer was in Dodge Co for awhile before moving on to WA. Also, William Seymour Pickett in Brookfield, WI. Another, David Taylor Pickett lived in Sheboygan. Jack Copet
