James C. & A. Jane (Bingham) Christy

Greenwood, Eaton, Clark Co., Wisconsin

 

James was born during 8 May 1840 in Green Co., PA.  His wife, A. Jane was a native of London, England, born 1 Dec 1835, and baptized 4 Dec 1835 at Notts, Sutton on Trent.  She was the daughter of William Greenwood and Hannah (Hempstock) Bingham.  Her father brought his family to the USA in the spring of 1836, settling in the La Crosse Valley where he ran the Lewis Flouring Mill. Both of her parents died there, the father passing away in 1861 and her mother dying in May of 1879.  Jane's first husband was Romeo Bostwick who she married 30 Dec 1857.  He was a native of VT and they had four children all born in West Salem, LaCrosse Co., WI: Isaac Clark (b. 9 Nov 1852), Henry A. (b. 22 Jan 1855), Martin W. (b. 1861), and George G. (b. 1858).  Isaac married Annie Sisco, and had 3 children: Sarah, Ella M., and an infant daughter. Henry married Mary Stanley, and had 2 children-Charles and Agnes. George married Mrs. Alice Ross, daughter of John W. Congley.  Mrs. Bostwick had 2 children by a former marriage: Archie P. and Maggie A. Ross. Romeo Bostwick was a Civil War soldier with Company L, 2nd Wis. Cav., and died in the service.  His widow was again married, 4 Oct 1865, to James Christie.

 

The Christy children were:  Elmer (b. 22 Oct 1868, d. 30 Aug 1869), Martha J. (b. 1869), Minnie M., Eleanor P. (b. 1 Sep 1873, m. Adolph Augustus Hemp 14 Oct 1889, d. 1956, Neillsville, WI), Josephus (b. 14 Jan 1879).  Minnie M., Eleanor P. and Joseph. Martha married John T. Farning, of this city, and has one child: Annie B. Minnie married Thomas Chadwick of Neillsville and has two children: Joseph and Sabrina. Eleanor married Adolph Hemp, of Weston Twp.  The family had moved to Eaton Twp., Clark Co., WI in the fall of 1865 to Homestead in Sect. 34.  They belonged to the Methodist Episcopal Church in Greenwood.   James Christie died 3 Oct 1883, and his widow was again married, 5 Jul 1889, to Henry Green, a native of NY.  He had 4 children by a former marriage.
