Memories of Stan Pekol

Stan Pekol and I departed from Service Company together.  His Dad took us to Merrill to catch the train to Chicago.  2-first's for me--1st ride in a Cadillac, and 1st ride on a train.  Upon arrival in Chicago we got took by a cab driver!  He shucked 2 country boy's out of 20.00,to go 1 block, which we could have walked, to catch the west-bound train to Missouri.  We had time, so we went to a cousin of Stan's wedding reception, not so good, we became somewhat IMBIBED, and were also given a bottle to take on the train, Oh well, we made it, but what a trip!  While in training we both had 24 hr. K. P.  We had no time to take care of our own area, so when one of us was gone, the other polished the boot's and took care of the bunk area.  It was cold in those W-2 barrack's, so we had a lot of people coming back from the Hospital and rejoining our group to take up their training, where they had dropped out, when they went to the Hospital, all in all, quite an experience. His siblings were: Jimmy, Ernie and Judy.  Allan Wire.
