Accident Claims Life of Ulysses
Cain
The Loyal Community was stunned Monday morning to learn
of the tragic death of Ulysses Cain. He was killed about 8:30
a.m. in an accident which occurred on Highway 98, just east of Main
Street.
Cain, a former city employee, has been working part-time for the
City of Loyal since his retirement about five years ago.
Monday morning he was helping city employee Ray Morrison with the
weekly garbage pickup. The pair had started their pickup in
the city’s northeast section and were picking up garbage
along Highway 98, traveling in a westerly direction.
After completing their pickup along Highway 98, Morrison intended
to back the truck in order to turn and proceed down Monroe
Street. Mr. Cain apparently fell or had gotten off the truck
and the wheels passed over him.
The accident was investigated by the Clark County Sheriff’s
Department and the County Coroner Robert Lulloff, who ruled the
death accidental. Death was caused by massive head
injuries.
The death was Clark County’s first traffic fatality of
1981,
