James, Clarissa (30 Jan 1840 - 16 Feb
1899)
The remains of Mrs. Clarissa James, a former resident of this city
(Neillsville, Clark County, but who has been residing the past year
at Tony, Chippewa County, were brought to this city Tuesday for
burial. Funeral sermon was preached at the M.E. Church. Mrs. James
died Feb. 16, of pneumonia, aged 59 years. A son, Oliver, and
daughter, Mrs. Coates, accompanied the remains here.
Deceased was born in Cattaraugus County, N.Y., Jan. 30, 1840. Her
maiden name was Clarissa Thompson, and was married to Spencer James
removed to Iowa, coming to Clark County, Wis. in 1872, where they
have since lived. Excepting the last year when had lived with her
son Oliver James at Tony, Wis. From a girl she was a member of the
Baptist Church.
