William West, an old resident of the town of
Grant, Clark County, died at his home in Pleasant Ridge Sunday,
Oct. 29, 1899. He was a native of England, and at the time of his

English ways and had many friends. He left three children, Wm.
West, Jr., Mrs. Sereno Wren and Mrs. Alice. Schummel, of this city.

(Addition from 11/23/1899 Republican and Times - Name was George H.

The remains were interred in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Mr. West
was born in England in 1819 and was married to Miss Sarah Rogers in
1838 in Wilshire, England. They lived there until 1849, when they,
with their family set sail for America, and landed in New York City
Nov. 1st. From there they went to Oconomowoc, Wis., where they
lived until 18xx, at which time they came to Clark County and
settled on a farm, where he spent his last days. The deceased was
an old soldier, enlisting in the War of the Rebellion and received
an honorable discharge at the close of the war. He was one of our
oldest settlers and loved and respected by all. His family has the
sympathy of all in their great loss. They desire to thank the
friends who kindly assisted them during their hour of trial.
