Hodges Martha (1873 - 3 Jan 1900)
Miss Martha Hodges died at her home in this
city of consumption last Wednesday afternoon after an illness of
two months. She was 26 years old and was born in the town of York,
Clark County, where she resided until about 7 years ago, when her
mother came to this city to live. She had never been a strong
healthy girl and about two years ago she began to decline, but
until a few weeks since was able to be around the house and attend
to the little social duties. She was of a retiring disposition, her
chief joy being in administering to the wants of her aged mother,
who is now left behind to mourn her loss and to whom is given the
sympathy of all.
Martha was withal a patient sufferer, bravely bearing the burden of
pain and when the grim destroyer closed her eyes to earthly scenes
she passed away at peace with all.
The funeral occurred from the M.E. Church Friday afternoon, Rev.
Scovill officiating.
