Klopf, Frederick (13 Nov 1828 - 26 Apr
1900)
Frederick Klopf died at his home in this city
(Neillsville, Clark County) on Thursday, April 26, 1900. He had
been gradually failing for some time past, the thread of life wore
thinner and thinner and finally broke. His family were all about
him during the few days previous to his death, Mrs. S.F. Reineking
coming from Wausau, and his sons Henry and Gust being warned of the
probable result of his sickness had come from the west. Frederick
Klopf was born at Armelshausen, Germany, Nov. 18, 1828. He came to
this country in 1842. For sixteen years he engaged in business in
Sheboygan County, removing to Neillsville in 1875, where he has
ever since resided. For about fourteen years after coming here, he
was actively engaged in the general mercantile business, and took
an active part in the affairs of the city. He was a member of the
city council when Neillsville was first incorporated. In late years
encroaching age and poor health have told upon him, and while he
has been able to be about the streets most of the time, he had
taken no active hand in affairs. His wife, though in feeble health,
survives him. He leaves one daughter, Mr. S.F. Reineking and four
sons, Henry W., William G. Gus R., and Alfred C. One sons, a young
man of twenty-one, died in 1882.
The funeral was held at the Congregational Church, Sunday
afternoon, Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating and the Workmen
Lodge, of which he was a charter member, taking part in the
ceremonies.
