Bates, George (1822 - 9 May 1900)
George Bates, an aged resident of the town of
Grant, Clark County, died at his home in that town Wednesday, May
9th, 1900, and was buried Friday from the Pleasant Ridge Church,
Rev. G. N. Foster officiating. Mr. Bates was born in West Kent,
England, in 1822. He came to America in the 40's and settled in the
town of Grant in 1863. He was a substantial and respected citizen
and as a pioneer had done his share in developing and opening up
his town.
