Head, Joel (1835- 1875)

Died, at the residence in this village (Neillsville, Clark County) on the morning of Dec. 2nd, 1875, of inversion of the intestines, Joel Head, in the forty-first years of his age.

Joel Head was born in the town of Howard, Steuben County, N.Y., on the eighth of June, 1835, and was at the time of his death, forty years, five months and twenty four days old. He came to this state to reside about twenty years ago, and had been a resident of this village for the past eight years, during which time he was actively engaged in business that brought him in contact with nearly every person doing business in the county. Honorable in all his dealing between man and man fun-loving, but always kindly, considerate and courteous in all social relations a true friend, a devoted husband and a kind and generous parent, he was beloved by all, and the sad announcement of his death, at an early hours last Thursday morning, fell with crushing weight upon the hearts of his sorrow-stricken friends and neighbors, filling every heart with sadness, making every house a house of mourning, through sympathy and regret. But a few days ago and he whose early and seemingly untimely death an afflicted community has been called to mourn went in and out among us, the very impersonation of health. But the Death Angel touched hi ere his shadow gave warning of his approach, and the strong man yield as the weakest in the race. Joel Head is dead. For his coming none May wait. No kindly greeting shall he again bestow. His soul has gone to God, who gave it, and while his body shall moulder back to its original dust, he shall ever live in the hearts of those who mourn his loss today. His afflicted family have the sympathy of every heart in this their sad bereavement. The funeral will take place tomorrow morning at half-past ten, from the M.E. Church. Ceremonies will be conducted by Rev. B. E. Wheeler.
