Learman, Gertrude Elsie Marie (1912 - 1995)


Gertrude Elsie Marie Learman, 82, Greenwood, Clark County, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 1995, at Neillsville Memorial Medical Center.


Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 3, 1995, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Greenwood. Rev. Robert Olson officiated. Burial was in the Braun Settlement Cemetery.


Pallbearers were Eldon Liebzeit, Galen Liebzeit, Roger Liebzeit, Blaine Liebzeit, Daryl Guenther and Roger Standiford.


Gertrude Elsie Marie Liebzeit was born on May 1, 1912, in Sheboygan County, to Albert and Clara (nee Braun) Liebzeit.


She graduated from Greenwood High School and Stevens Point Normal School. She taught in country school in Greenwood, Owen and Christie areas. She married Elmer Learman on June 10, 1939, at Immanuel United Church of Christ, Greenwood. He preceded her in death on March 4, 1992. She taught in country schools until the early 1960's. She then taught in Greenwood until she retired in 1977 after 41 years of teaching. She resided in Greenwood until the time of her death. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid, and the Retired Teachers Association.


Survivors include one son, James E. (Nancy) Learman, Greenwood one daughter, Karlene (William) Burgener, Merrill five grandchildren and four brothers, Harry Liebzeit, Owen Clarence Liebzeit, Norman Liebzeit and Arvin Liebzeit, all of Greenwood.


She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and one sister.


Rinka Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
